Pierre wanted to smile as he saw the afternoon Miami skyline approaching fast. The window seat afforded him the opportunity to watch civilization his entire flight from Haiti. For months he’d been locked in solitary confinement. A shower once every two weeks, no recreation, no phone calls, no visits, and food that wasn’t fit for a dog—when he did receive it. Pierre was very good looking, tall, light brown skin with hazel eyes. His hair was closely cropped and his features were sharp. He was athletically built. Sleek, muscular and trim. When he took off his shirt his physique was impressive, he didn’t have a six pack. His was an eight-pack. When imprisoned with the thieves, thugs, drug dealers and killers, they and the guards who didn’t know him, took him for being weak. He’d been in Haiti for less than a year. He had come to take care of business for his mother. When they began to get money, the police and politicians took notice and that’s when they arrested Pierre, on a trumped up charge. Laurette was advised to leave, which she did, but knew she would pull all stops to get her son freed. When an inmate challenged Pierre, it took only seconds for Pierre to take the man out. With two punches the man was knocked out, lying on the dirt rec-yard floor with a broken eye socket and jaw. When the guards hauled Pierre off to solitary confinement, one guard got unnecessarily rough with Pierre and he got the same treatment, causing Pierre to take a beating—one he took like a man.
The plane bounced a bit and the wheels to the 747 screeched, bringing the plane to a halt. Once the passengers were given the okay by the flight attendants, they filed out of the plane. As they walked through the terminal and then customs, people united with family and friends or simply went on their way. Pierre was calm and looked as if he hadn’t missed a beat of freedom. When the slim Dominican woman walked up to him, they paused. She was tall but not quite matching his height. She was slim, dark-skinned with a blown out hairdo that reminded Pierre of one that Erica Badu had rocked for a while.
The woman looked into Pierre’s eyes and matched his gaze, which was unwavering. They studied each other then hugged and kissed hard as Pierre used one hand to palm her soft ass and the other to intertwine in her hair as he held the back of her head just as she did his. Neither one of them wanted to break the embrace, not caring who saw them in the crowded airport, but they eventually had to come up for air.
Mari placed her hands on Pierre’s cheeks and looked into his eyes. “I’ve missed you so much.”
“I’ve missed you even more. I thought about you every day and those thoughts are what kept me strong. Now let’s get out of here.”
Pierre had no bags so there was no need to stop at the baggage claim.
